Aného is located about 50 km east of Lomé, on the N°2 national road that follows the Togolese coastline toward the Ghanaian border. The city is easily accessible from the capital as well as from neighboring countries. The route follows the coast, offering glimpses of the ocean and the lagoon along the way. Here are all the options, from the most economical to the most comfortable.
Bush taxis to Aného depart from Agbalépédo station in Lomé, located in the northern part of the city center. Vehicles are shared minibuses or station wagons. Journey time is 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic, which can be heavy leaving Lomé. Fare is about 2,000 Fcfa per person. Departures happen when the vehicle is full; bring small bills and a bit of patience. For more comfort, you can buy two seats. Bush taxis drop you at Aného's station, right in the town center, steps from the first maquis and the market.
Moto-taxis, or zemidjans, run the entire Lomé-Aného route. Faster than bush taxis, they take about 45 minutes to 1 hour. Fare ranges from 3,000 to 5,000 Fcfa depending on negotiation, exact pickup point, and time of day. Helmets are mandatory and provided by the driver. Moto-taxis are not recommended at night due to reduced visibility and lack of street lighting on some road sections. For travelers with bulky luggage, a bush taxi or private car is a better choice.

Aného is about 3 hours by road from Accra, the Ghanaian capital. Take an STC bus or shared taxi from Accra to the Aflao border post. Disembark on the Ghanaian side. Complete Ghana exit formalities, walk across the border zone (about 200 meters), then complete Togo entry formalities. Once on the Togolese side, take a moto-taxi or taxi for the remaining 5 km to Aného. Bring your passport and, depending on your nationality, a Togolese visa. ECOWAS nationals do not need a visa. The border is open from 6am to 10pm.
From Cotonou in Benin, Aného is about 3.5 hours by road. Take a bus or shared taxi to the Hillacondji border. Cross the border on foot, then take a bush taxi or moto-taxi to Aného, located about twenty kilometers from the border post. The route follows the coast and passes through several fishing villages. Some long-distance Cotonou-Lomé buses can drop you directly at Aného on request; ask when boarding.
For travelers arriving via the lagoon or already staying in the region, it is possible to reach Aného by traditional pirogue from surrounding lake villages. Travel during daylight, especially by moto-taxi. Keep valuables on your person and luggage within sight. During rainy season, roads can degrade on some sections; allow extra time.
